PC Maintenance _Don'ts_

This article covers some maintenance practice or you can say advice that we can employ to take care of our PC.
You can read the one on PC health HERE.
Everybody values what they have but some person don’t know how to value what they have or show that they value what they have. A PC is a very valuable piece of device to every user that knows it’s worth and having to use a PC for a long time there is a strong bond that usually grows between the user and the PC and most times it is very difficult to bear the loss when we lose such a bond not just because of our files that we have lost but because we are humans and a void has been created in our hearts, that seemingly we will have to fill with a new PC, Very funny indeed.
But having to use a PC for a long time doesn’t just come off on its own, some effort has to be taken consistently so as to be able to make this possible, this are some things that you should try to do and also keep in mind. Some you have to do and others you have to avoid. Let’s begin.

We Will Start With The Don’ts.

1. AVOID PLACING HEAVY OBJECTS ON YOUR PC
Some persons might think that our PCs (laptops) are super-devices and thus use them to stack items, this is a very dangerous act and can lead to several PC issues. Our PC contains rigid parts that are not very flexible and can break or crack when uneven stress are applied on them –this parts includes: the PC screen, the mother board and the hard disk – the hard disk in this case might not break but might have serious problems when pressed upon, the screen can cracked form such pressure so as the mother board also.
And in this, when I talked about placing heavy objects on them I am not just talking about items being placed on them in the vertical form, I am also taking about horizontal loads being placed on the PC, that is when we place them in our bags most especially back packs we should make sure that the bag is not very tight so as to avoid unnecessary effects during actions like when we are walking or bending down.
Another effect on placing too much load on the PC might result to our disk drive failure, breaking of some smears and bolts holders in the PC cover and also problems with the hinge of the systems, these are all problems that can lead to serious problems later on and can even make our PC looks ugly and uncomfortable to use.

2. AVOID USING THE KEYBOARD AS A PAD
A lot of persons are guilty with this one but this can lead to serious keyboard issues that can result from the continuous pressing of the keyboard keys. Except our keyboard key is rugged and built for gaming we should try to limit the way we use the default PC keyboard as game stick, this is because the default keyboard is usually thinner in thickness when compared to the one for gaming and most times might not be able to withstand the pressure of the rapid and continuous pressing and clicking of the keys which might lead to the eventual breakdown of the keyboard or which might lead to some keys from working or working properly.

3. AVOID USING THE PC IN AN UNVENTILATED SPACE
It may be hard to think that you might be using your PC in a vacuum or in an un-ventilated place , but the “un-ventilated” space being mentioned here is not for you the user but for the PC, most PCs are air cooled and thus usually have duct where air flow in and out from the PC which usually in most cases are controlled by the PC fan – one duct is usually under while the other is usually by the side – so to avoid stressing out your processor and also to avoid your PC from overheating and shutting down it is recommended that you don’t close any of these duct when using your PC. When using your PC you should check that there is enough breathing space for the PC under and also by the side so that the PC will be able to receive enough air for Cooling the processor.

4. DON’T HIT OR SLAM ON YOUR PC
This is a very easy one to explain because sometimes you might get the result immediately when you try to do such, but since persons will not do this directly or on purpose, they might do it indirectly or by mistake, and some of the actions that are similar to this being done by most PC users that should be avoided include: to avoid closing your laptop screen/cover with high force or to drop your laptop with a thud, like I side earlier your laptop contains fragile parts that can fall apart from shock. So actions like this should be avoided so as to safeguard the parts of the systems and prolong its usage.
Another thing to mention here is: some persons like pressing there <enter> key with high force – still trying to imagine the pleasure they derive from doing that – this should be strongly avoided since it can lead to same problems, and also likewise actions like pressing the power button with force, pressing the track pad left and right click keys with force and so on should also be strongly avoided.

5. CARE IN PLUGGING IN/PLUGGING OUTS
This are particularly concern with accessories that are connected into the PC such as USB devices, DVD or compact disk, the PC battery, aux cable, power cable, LAN cable and so on. When plugging in or plugging out device from your PC care should be taken so as to remove the device with causing any distortion in the connection medium of the device, and also when we plug in device into our PC we should place the PC in such a way that the connected device sits comfortably in the PC and not carrying or supporting the PC weight so as prevent distortion from occurring in the device and in our PC. If these connection ports are not taken properly care of then problems such as shaky and unstable USB ports, shaky power ports, spoilage of the disk drive and such related problems can occur so care has to be taken to prevent such problems.

6. AVOID UNNECESSARY THINGS
This forms parts of the general ideal that doesn’t actually cover any particular detail but covers everything that we have to do, but it all boils down to the basic care that we need to show to our PC. If we value our PC a lot we will do all our best to ensure that we use it for a long time and sometimes at least pass it down to another person when we upgrade or move to a better PC.
Sometimes we might want to try out new things on our PC, when trying to do such we should ensure that our action are within the safe operation zone of our PC so that we will not end up spoiling the PC. And also we should avoid all kind of sudden emotional impact when using our PC like slamming on it because it seems to be slow, pushing it down or such other actions.
Then also we should try avoid using our PC in very unpredictable environment like using it in the car when moving over a very bad road – maybe filled with a lot of pot-holes - , we should avoid using it when eating or drinking, we should avoid using our PC when feeling sleepy, we should avoid using our PC when standing i.e. holding the PC on our arms for a long time these are actions that can lead to unforeseen circumstances.
Then again we should always try to foresee into our movement to see that all the conditions in which our PC is going to pass through is going to be very conducive for the PC such as when we traveling; if we know that our luggage are to going to be tightly stacked then it is better that we carry our PC in our back pack, if we noticed the change in weather and that it might rain then it is better that we take some covering for our laptop to prevent water from sipping through and so on.
All these are just some ideas that we can employ, since all cases are unique we would need to look into our case specifically to know what to do.
