10 PC Settings That You Don't Want To Miss Out On.

Most of us are still finding it hard to get around our personal computer [pc] which can be either a pc or a desktop or any of such variations, some things still looks very new to us, others we are conversant with while others we can’t just get it right. A pc has more than 50 simultaneous applications that is working in real time to make sure that the pc does the function to which it is supposed to do. You might use a pc for all your life and will never encounter any of the system applications that runs in the background to make your pc do the function to which you called it to do. But we are really not here to talk about the many systems applications that make the pc work smoothly but we just want to talk about some ways that we can make our pc more easy to use by employing some settings to the general settings that we use in our pc so in this way we can make the pc more useful to us and also increase the efficiency that we can get from using our pc better.
These settings has to be done manually by the user since most of them don’t come by default from the manufacturers and also has to be adjusted to fit the users taste, because everybody don’t use their pc in the same as the other person, so each settings is very unique to each users but the general idea and aim of the settings has to be maintained so as to be able to enjoy the benefit of using these settings.
So let’s get started and explore some settings that can change our computer experience for the better.

1. ADJUSTING THE BRIGHTNESS SETTINGS FOR PLUG IN AND PLUG OUT.
This setting implies that you set the brightness settings for when you are plugged in (i.e. connected to a power outlet: charging) and when you are not plug in at different brightness level, this is not just to save battery when you are not plugged in, but to notify you when you are plugged in or not. When using your pc seriously the last thing that you will be checking is the battery level except at intervals, so you might have been using your pc for the past 1hr only to discover the low battery alert popping up on your screen. This can be a very frustrating alert if the main power source is out or if you are no longer close by to accessing it because you might have been there all along with the idea that the pc has been charging, but if the brightness level for when you are plugged in and when you are not plugged in has been at different you would have noticed the changed early and make better plans towards saving your battery or adjusting your charger if the power is still on or looking for a means to provide solution to your predicament before it is too late, because this can lead to serious damage like losing unsaved work and so on. So setting them at different level is quite important especially making the plug in brightness level higher than the plug out brightness level – which is usually the default that comes with some operating system.

2. SETTINGS: WHEN CLOSE THE PC LID – DO NOTHING.
This settings entails that when you using your pc and the close the pc screen lid the pc will not go into hibernation nor sleep but will continue working until the next time you open the pc scree lid. The setting is very efficient for students and persons that work in very mobile conditions like in the car, train, bus etc. because with this it will be easy for you to move your pc i.e. to package it in case of emergency or sudden movement from one place to another. Because when you needed to move all of a sudden you are not troubled to close the system and put it into your bag, you do this without fear that your pc will shut down or hibernate and you might lose your unsaved works or troubles like that. And it can also be very efficient when working in places that you need to be a little secretive so in this way you can easily close the pc and move to another location without any worries if you suddenly notice that the first location has become hostile or not very conducive for what you working on at that moment.

3. SETTINGS: WHEN I PRESS THE POWER BUTTON - HIBERNATE.
This is another very important setting and it serve almost the same purpose as the number 2 above, but in this case it will help by saving you the time to look for the hibernation icon on the task bar and clicking on it, but by pressing on the power button once you can do the same function. Another function of this is that it will help you to build up the habit of always hibernating your pc rather than shutting it down, shutting your pc down always is not a very good thing to be doing every time, because there might just be some settings that is going on somewhere that you will not just see before you shut down the system but by the time that you have shut down the system it might just be too late to change whatever damage that that might have cause. So shutting your pc maybe once in a week is a good habit for a pc user.
Like the point before also serve, this settings is also a good way to pack suddenly and also a good way to move from point to point, but if the moving interval is very short then you should not use this settings too often so that you will not be moving in and out of hibernation at too short an interval, since this can put stress on the ram and hard disk of the pc and can lead to accumulated damage later, so if the moving interval is short then you can consider using the number 2 option until you are ready to stop working, or leave or has gotten to a more stable location.

4. SETTINGS – INTERNET: MAKE YOUR PERSONAL WIFI OR DAIL UP CONNECTION METERED CONNECTION. (Usually For Win8/10).
This settings has been talked about in my previous article (you can look it up here). This is a very important settings for those persons that use their personal computer to browse while connected to their personal internet connection that is not unlimited. This is very essential because with this setting enable on your on your pc OS (windows), your pc OS will not use this connection for any application or settings except those that are opened and running in real time, so with this you don’t have the fear that your –small, limited–  data will be use to update your pc OS where in most cases this is undesirable, so before you use your network on your pc try to double check to make sure that the connection is set to metered connection so as to avoid unnecessary usage of your internet data by your pc OS.

5. SETTINGS: TURNING ON YOUR POWER SAVER EVEN WHEN YOUR BATTERY IS NOT LOW.
This setting sometimes is good not just to help you save your battery but to prevent unnecessary actions or operation to be running on the pc that you might not be aware of. When your pc battery saver is on the pc triggers the sensation that the battery is low - even if it might not be – with this setting on some operation like, system update, update installation, one drive synchronization and other such operation will be paused all in the bid to increase the battery life of the system, so if you are not really sure why your system is using too much power or using too much of your internet data you can just turn on the battery saver to pause most of the other background applications and with this saving your self unnecessary stress or unwanted alert or after effect.
So this settings helps to save your battery which was the initial intended purpose that it was developed for, it reduce the screen brightness, the CPU performance and so on, but the batter saver is designed to come on usually at 20% by default (win10), but if you are fully charged and the main power is out and you don’t know when next that you might be plugged in you can manually turn on the battery saver to help conserve power where necessary and increase your battery usages time.

These settings are some of the settings you might want to consider applying to your pc to increase your work output performance when using your pc. The settings and the associated levels attached to it are not straight jacketed so you can tune them to suit your needs, taste and also your pc specs.
To get to know more about your pc and what it can do for you have to move around the pc and check out what each and every settings does, be careful to read what the settings says before applying any so that your story will not end with a regret.
Be sure to comment any other settings that you think will be helpful to others and leave your questions also in the comment box to get answers to it.
Check back next week for more.
Check out for the part 2 of this work next week; come back for more.
