PC HEALTH -SoftWare-

The value that a PC holds in this our world is ever increasing and the demands for better systems and more efficient system applications are ever increasing also, so with all this the need for more computer engineers, technicians and also software developers are also increasing. But since everyone is using a PC why not everyone equip themselves with the basic ideas and needs of a computer.
The hardest difficulty that most person or group of persons face after implementing a good program or event is consistency in maintenance, and this can also be seen in this sphere, after spending lots of money in getting a high end PC you will lose the consistence in proving the PC needs to last long thus leading to the breakdown of the PC, some might be conscious about this but don’t know how to go around it so they will end up spending large sum of money in providing the laptop needs.
So here we will show you some maintenance practice that should be taken in order to take proper care of your PC, we will talk about the software aspect in this article and in the next article we will talk about the hard ware aspect.
Remember that consistency in maintenance services here is the most important factor to consider and put into practice.

1. REGULAR SCANNING.
This is basically the most common maintenance operation, but even though it is common many person don’t take this seriously. Scanning your system always is not just a way to remove virus and Trojan from your PC but it is also a way to fix different malware or other errors in your PC. Most modern security systems are equipped with a whole lot of tools that does a proper diagnosis of your PC and helps to fix all related problems.
For instance 360 security runs check on Virus, Malware, PC boast, PC optimization, Internet security and also drivers update and others and provide related solutions to these problems, so regular scanning of your PC with a good security systems is a way of giving your laptop a general medicine for all it’s illness.
And also with the risk of increasing internet fraud and malware injection it is very good to run constant checks on your PC if you use the internet a lot, download files from unrecognized sites or use a lot of cracked apps, because sometimes and most times most of these app send user statistics to the creator or install virus or apps to keep tabs on you. So to avoid most or all of this it is recommended to run security checks on your PC at least once every week or better still set up automatic schedule that will run the scan even when you are not around or might have forgotten.

2. DISK CLEANUP.
This is among the most neglected aspect of PC maintenance because many PC users don’t know about this and don’t know where to access it from – basically it can be access from the properties menu of a PC internal drive partition – since it is usually neglected some security scan usually have it among the scan operation while carrying out the system scan. This operation is very necessary as it helps to delete and remove redundant and sometimes harmful files from your PC, it also helps to free up space and make your PC faster.
So sometimes if your PC is slowing down you might want to scan for redundant pc files and delete it, it shows you the different redundant files and allows you to choose the one that you want to remove. So if you download a lot, use the internet a lot, just changed from one windows version to another or basically use your laptop a lot then you might want to be doing this a lot at least once every week also. Some files that are usually removed through this process includes: previous windows installation, unused temp log files, internet track files, recycle bin files, old windows update files and so on. The files if left for a long time might accumulate into many gigabytes of data which in turn reduces the available free space on your hard disk and also cause system lags.

3. WINDOWS UPDATE.
This is the most important but least done maintenance operation that persons usually carry out on their pc, mainly because windows update is usually large and thus require a lot of internet data to complete, so many persons usually turn this feature off and just forget about it. But to be able to use your PC effectively this is a very important task to do; the secret here is to avoid the hard work theory that is – the accumulation of easier works – what this means is that you should not leave your updates to accumulate, so it is better that you check them from time to time and get them updated before it is too late at least once in a month is a good minimum schedule that can be taken to ensure PC health.
Some of the sectors that is usually updated – apart from the regular updates that we see – includes; the malware settings, virus definition updates, new added operations and settings, themes, more efficient drivers and so on. All these new updates are very necessary when you want to use your PC for maximum efficiency and also to prevent some certain breakdown like virus infection, system crashing, system slowing down and also loss of up time due to bad or outdated drivers and also to be able to use the latest release versions of applications.
So when you are updating your windows always it makes your PC to be easier to use by others, makes your work faster and reduce the time and money that you might spend in going to visit a computer doctor.
So always do the needful whenever necessary, a healthy PC brings out a healthy work life.

4. SHUTTING DOWN/RESTATING YOUR PC
This may sound very funny to some but it is as serious just as funny as it sounds, many persons just like me – funny but true – don’t shut down their laptop when they are about to stop using it, instead they hibernate or sleep their PC, this can be due to the many applications that are still open or running in the background of their PC or to avoid the time wasted in booting up the PC every time that they are about to use it so they usually hibernate or sleep.
But after installing some new applications to your PC, or after some software installation there is usually need to restart the PC but because of the work that is being carried out sometimes this notification is being ignored or postponed until some real damage has been caused.
So in general to avoid such it is recommended that the user shuts down his PC or restart it at least once every week, so as to complete some of these pending operations; installation of new drivers update or add-ons or applications, complete removal of old temp files, and also PC scan that some app does whenever the PC is being booted. This is a very important thing to do because you might have updated your p for a driver that needs a PC restart in order to fully update but you left it at that and keep on postponing the update, which will lead to the driver never been updated and might in turn cause some real harm to your pc’s OS.
So weekly PC restart or shutting down is very necessary for a healthy PC life.

5. Manual check
This is also a very important task that needs to be done regularly on your PC, but this is mostly needed if you usually download a lot of stuff online, use the internet a lot, install application a lot and so on. To carry out this operation successfully a lot of basic knowledge about how a PC works and also how the media storage is arranged is needed. This operation basically requires checking the PC storage files for any inconsistency or unrecognized activity or app or settings and correcting it to the required value or settings or deleting the unwanted app.
Operations carried out here include:
  • Checking the recycle bin.
  • Checking the program files and folders,
  • Checking your internet files and folders.
  • Checking app data and program files and folders.
  • Checking running services and programs on task manager.

These operations like I earlier stated will only prove fruitful when you know what you are doing which include to be able to detect the inconsistencies and provide the necessary solutions to it, but it is a very important step most especially for those apps or settings and most especially running services that might not show up in system scan or security scan. This operation can be carried or as many times as the need arise or when you notice any change that does not accord to the normal functioning of the system. So to be able to use this for maximum efficiency you have to have a bit of experience about the way your computer works.

These operations are some of the software –health– operations that persons can carry out on their PC to increase not the “Lasting” of the PC but the functionality of the PC in terms of software usage and also to prevent damage to their OS and to increase the efficiency of the PC user and reduce the time spent in trying to figure out or fix software related problems.
Join us next week when we will be talking about some ways to make your pc last longer, but now in terms of hardware solution to using your pc for a longer time.
