PLANETARY MNEMONICS

PLANETARY MNEMONICS.

When last did you read about the planets? Do you still think or you are you among those persons that still hold on to the saying that the planet Pluto has exploded or has gone into extinction? But don't worry am not here to arrest anyone for any of such quarry. When we were younger we were used to singing or at least reciting the song "my very earth mother just served us nine pizzas" which was later reduce to "my very earth mother just served us nachos" which lead those persons mention above to think that something bad has happen to the last guy. And if you are among those that still think these things are for kids just know that in as much as some of them were combined by kids most of them were still combined by the older kind not for kids alone but for the general usage of various individuals.
The name of such combination as seen above (or you thought it doesn't have a name) are called planetary mnemonic.
It may be defined as "a phrase used to remember the planets of the solar system, with the order of words corresponding to increasing sidereal periods of the bodies"(Wikipedia).
The planetary mnemonic dates back years ago, as the discovery of more planets
Became more rampant and the names allocated to each planets were diverse with no relationship between them, so there arise the need to create a system to remember them in which the various planets can be remembered easily.
The above example were among the first example that has been used for a very long time, since somehow the discovery of planets came to a halt. It was later reduce to the second option because Pluto was now regarded as a dwarf planet, (so it didn't explode or went into extinction) so it was removed from the mnemonics of the planets, but can still be used in the mnemonics of all the large body in our solar system. The NASA classification of Pluto as a dwarf planet led to some mnemonic becoming obsolete and new ones being formed, but the above example (the first one) can still be acceptable in the odd classification of the planets, that is the classification of the planets and the dwarf planet in one mnemonic (since Pluto is now a dwarf planet not a planet It is assumed to be odd).
The planets and the dwarf planets that has been discovered are about 15 in number including dwarf planets like Ceres, Eris and others some of them are new while others are old, in terms of their discovery not age. And this will lead to the need to discover new and longer mnemonics to accommodate all the planets and dwarf planets.
There exist some mnemonics that has been standardized by some space agencies like NASA, or other companies or group. But the mnemonics are not constant in the sense that new ones can be added at any time without any formal legislation to accept such terms, but for a mnemonic to be usable it has to be something reasonable and should be made up of words sensible enough to be used together in one sentence. In this form just as in other acronym the first letter or the first two letters of the individual words used in the mnemonics usually written in capital letters represent the various planets and they are arranged in respect to their distance from the sun. There are also some mnemonics that include the sun also in its combination, and there are also mnemonics that are in which the planets are arranged in terms of alphabetical order. Mnemonics also make use of very simple everyday words in their combinations, this is usually done to ease the remembrance of such words and also for easy arrangements of the various words used in the mnemonics. Mnemonics usually originate from impulse, not requiring very many meditations, this also is the very reason why they seem so simple to use and remember.

Various examples of planetary mnemonics include;
1) My Very Energetic Mother Jumps Skateboards Under Nana's Patio.
2) Mary’s Violet Eyes Make Johnny Stay Up Nights Plenty.
3) My Very Easy Method Just Shows Us Nine Planets.
4) Mary’s Violet Eyes Make Johnny Stay Up Nights, Pondering.
5) My Very Easy Method Just Speeds Up Naming Planets.

From the above example it can be seen why they are interesting and also a confirmation to the first premises that was made about the term.
Planetary mnemonics has evolved over time taking into consideration all the various modifications that has also been incurred in the categorization and the description of the various planets in our solar system, and the mnemonics are only made up of planets that has already been discovered in our solar systems.
So now that we have known a little bit about or maybe all we need about this we should try to take note that almost all events, activities that has happened or will happen has names.
So we should try to formulate our own mnemonics and drop them in the comment box. The various mnemonics dropped will be published in full in this site.

Other examples of this term include.
1) "My Violent Evil Monster Just Scared Us Nuts". (Kyle Sullivan of Lumberton).
2) "Many Very Educated Men Justify Stealing Unique Ninth". (Schott's Miscellany by Ben Schott)
3) "My Very Exciting Magic Carpet Just Sailed Under Nine Palace Elephants". (Maryn Smith of Great Falls, Montana)
4) "My Very Educated Mother Cannot Just Serve Us Nine Pizzas—Hundreds May Eat!” (new York Times)
5) Many Very Educated Men Just Screwed Up Nature.

You can also try naming the mnemonics listed in this article and naming the planets that each mnemonics suggest because not all the mnemonics are the same, some are normal mnemonics while others are odd mnemonics. We should take to mind that longer mnemonics will be need in the future if more dwarf planets are discovered or if other planets are discovered so we should be prepared for taking this into account when planning to make mnemonics, because longer ones will definitely be needed.
Please note that mnemonics is not an official way of represent the planets, so we should be careful in taking note where we use such terms, so as not to make a fool of our personality.

This is a list of all the planets and dwarf planets that we have in our solar system now so you can use this to form mnemonics of your own and drop in the comment box, when you do this attach the name that you want to be affiliated with the mnemonics so that when it is published it will have your name alongside it.
