DRY-ING
What do you call; when you see your roommate eating beans
and you ask him "guy are you eating beans, but he replied no oh! Na
yam" or when you ask your roommate "pls. can you help me carry that
chair over here, and he replies “why will I carry it, am I a chairman" (in
Pidgin English "I dey carry am I be chairman). This is or can be a very
common thing to do among youth of these days when faced with such question or
request made by another, this form of reply to these question or request made is
or can be called DRY-ING.
DRY-ING: can be defined as an ironic and sarcastic reply to a
question or statement, with very obvious answers to them aimed at fun or
relaying the stupidity of some question or statement. (NARUTO-RAPHEAL 2016). It can also be applied to joke, command but
the term is always used to represent the askee (respondent) of a particular
conversation which in most case is the second person in the process of the
conversation (the person who needs to reply).
Note that a person who DRYs is called a DRY-ER.
DRY-ING can be divided into two main group:
(1) SINGLE DRY-ING.
(2) MULTIPLE DRY-ING.
The single stage DRY-ING or single DRY-ING is the act of
DRY-ING that involves or activate only one DRY-ER, and the DRY-ER is usually
the person been spoken to or the second person in the line of the conversation
not usually the initiator of the conversation. In this a foreign body or entity
sparks off some form of vocal sound or comment or question or even a question
which leads the DRY-ER to reply in the manner we are referring to.
For example:
{A man sees a boy washing}
Man: hello dear! Are you washing?
Boy: no oh! Am swimming.
Woman: pls. can you open the window.
Girl: why will I open the window am a bottle opener.
This form of drying can also be done multiple times in the
same course of that particular conversation in which it was initiated, for the
first example above it can continue as such.
Man: hello! Are you washing your clothes?
Boy: no oh! I am swimming.
Man: guy you are a DRY-ER.
Boy: why will I dry am I a hair dryer.
Man: (…).
Boy: (…)
(N.B notice the
two words DRY-ER and dryer are not the same in this context)
One of the noticeable constant in this conversation is that
there is only one DRY-ER in the period of the conversation.
The multiple DRY-ING or multiple stage DRY-ING is the
plural form of the single act, it is when there is present more than one DRY-ER
in a given conversation. It can be about a min of about 2 or a max of about max
persons.
In this the DRY-ING is done randomly when more than two
persons are involved. But when only two persons are involved, it is usually
done sequentially that is, the first DRY-ER DRYs and wait for the second DRY-ER
to DRY, this is done continuously until one person gives up or is out of
DRY-ABLE ideas or commits one of the few errors in the DRY-ING process.
Another Classification Of This Term Is;
1) Answer to question DRY-ING.
2) Reply to statement DRY-ING.
3) Reply to plea DRY-ING.
ANSWER TO QUESTION; it is the DRY-ING that involves the DRY-ER DRY-ING to a
question that was to be replied by him. For example, the first example that was
given in the article is a perfect example of this type.
REPLY TO STATEMENT; it is the DRY-ING that involves the DRY-ER DRY-ING to a
statement that was said during the course of a conversation or a statement just
heard etc. One peculiar attribute of this form is that the main foundation or
the main word the DRY-ER used in DRY-ING is formed or gotten from the statement
heard. In this the DRY-ING is a direct consequences of the statement heard
during the course of this event.
REPLY TO PLEA DRY-ING; it is the DRY-ING that involves the DRY-ER DRY-ING to a
request or plea that was made to him or requested to him by someone, in this
also the main word used in the DRY-ING process is gotten from the request and
usually centers about the noun or verb that was used in the conversation.
Other attributes that are associated with DRY-ING include; Errors,
Unsujo, and a DRY-ING DRY-ER.
ERRORS;
include those DRY-ING in which the DRY-ER provide the correct answers or reply
to a question or statement being made in the process of DRY-ING.
It is usually common among beginner and armature DRY-ERs. This
most times leads to the short lived of a DRY-ING process or in most cases causes
that a DRY-ING process never occurs, even when it might have been the initial
plan of the DRY-ER.
UNSUJO;
it include those DRY-ING in which the DRY-ER DRYs a DRY that is not related in
any way with the foundation or main word relating to the question or statement
being said or used in the process or conversation. This usually occurs due to
insufficient DRY-ABLE words or actions that can lead to DRY-ING, this often
leads to the termination of a multi-stage or in some case a single stage
DRY-ING.
DRY-ING DRY-ER; it is those DRY-ING in which the DRY-ER DRYs a DRY that is
not significant to what is being said or does not flow into the conversation,
in this it is said that the DRY-ER is DRY. It can also very much lead to the
termination of a multistage DRY-ING and can also lead to the termination of a
single a single stage DRY-ING. The name is given to the person not the action
performed.
There are some activities that DRY-ING process can be used for
as an event. For example;
JOKE;
DRY-ING can be greatly applied in joke, since some DRY-ING is very funny and it
can be used for the amusement of others, just for the fun of it.
DRY WAR;
this is usually done among two persons in a multiple DRY-ING sequence, where
the two persons keep DRY-ING one after the other until one of the DRY-ERs run
out of DRY-ABLE ideas or commit one of the errors or plunders associated with
drying, leading to the termination of the game, and the other persons emerging
as the winner or 'DRY-ER'. It can also be done among more than two persons, but
this is not usually done because the whole system of the event can lead to a
complicated argument, but still it can be done if pre-set rules were set at the
onset of the game.
DRY-ING is usually done in Pidgin English for increase in
the ease of DRY-ABLE ideas and also increase in the level of the funniness of
the DRY-ING and also due to increase in clarity of the DRY-ING. But is can also
be done in English. One of the basic aim of DRY-ING which can be linked to its
origin is the use of it to show the stupidity or inconsequentiality of some
question asked or statement made and to make a kind of mild mockery of the
person asking the question. It can also be very much done just for the fun of
it.
N.B:
v DRY-ING is a very random process and can also very much
happen spontaneously, so we should watch out for those occasions and drop them
in the comment box. Thanks a lot.
v The word DRY-ING and Drying are not the same thing as used
in this article or in the case of this subject, together with other such word
of the form.
